A lesson in ARIA design history

My favourite thing about new music is checking out the cover art. My all time favourite CD cover art would have to be for Regurgitator’s ‘Unit’ (although I could be a little biased as they are my all time favourite band). ‘Unit’ scored itself an ARIA for its shockingly simplistic CD cover art (by design agency The Shits), which was considered to be unconventional and a little rebellious at the time (1998).

It’s interesting to see how CD covers have progressed over the years. Here are a few that have won ARIA awards:

1988: Midnight Oil – ‘Deisel and Dust’

1990: Hunters and Collectors – ‘Ghost Nation’

1994: Deborah Conway – ‘Bitch Epic’

1997: Silverchair – ‘Freakshow’

2001: Powderfinger – ‘Odyssey Number Five’

2004: The Dissociatives – (self-titled)

2008: The Presets – ‘Apocalypso’

2009: Empire Of The Sun – ‘Walking On A Dream’
