Embarrassing typo, can you spell Australia?

I would certainly hope so! Unfortunately, not only the manufacturers in Hong Kong but also, the contractor in Tasmania who outsourced the cloth badges for the Royal Australian Navy uniforms cannot spell Australia! The uniforms were made for Navy officers serving in the Middle East. The badge includes an extra “L” in the word Australian. [...]

Hottest 10 Australian album covers

Triple J recently counted down the Hottest 100 Australian Albums, as voted by the Aussie public. When I was compiling my shortlist in preparation to vote, I noticed that the albums I remembered best as a whole, were the ones that I could remember what the cover looked like. It made me wonder if the [...]

Cleanse and refresh your creative soul

The Dalai Lama is coming to Australia next month, and I managed to score a ticket to see his seminar in Melbourne. I’m really looking forward to dosing my soul in clean, refreshing perspective. So this month, I’m getting ready by cleansing my creative soul, and came across this great blog with some truly beautiful, [...]

Say it on the Cocktail Typer

The recent agIdeas conference in Melbourne showcased loads of amazing designers from diverse creative backgrounds. One particularly inspirational duo, James Yencken and Leeathon Bellew, patented a little online invention called the ‘Cocktail Typer’. While it’s not an excessively useful tool, it is really awesome. They have set up a board of little cocktail umbrellas and [...]

Before I die…

I’ve always driven past billboards/ads/posters and eagerly scanned their content for some form of inspiration to bring to my day. But it seems that beer advertisements with half-naked models, realestate billboards with cheesy agents and towering fast food burgers just aren’t cutting it for me. I can’t help but feel like big businesses have lost [...]

The ‘Bandwagon’ that’s not for everyone

Apple’s strong marketing campaigns, amazing hardware and great software have definitely been stealing the technological spotlight almost to the extent where (and I don’t mean to start arguments about this) people seem to be forgetting all about Microsoft and what they have been up to. So I would like to take the time to talk [...]

They don’t make them like they used to…

I loved …Paul’s post last week of Back to the Future: a photograph concept. Photographer Irina Werning recreated old childhood photographs, with some very goofy results. This got me thinking – isn’t it great that we live in 2011?! The advertising strategies and fashion in the 70s and 80s is something quite unbelievable, but my [...]
