To promote exercise and the 2014 Olympics, a very special ticket machine has been installed at the Moscow subway station.
Instead of accepting money as payment, the high-tech ticket machine only accepted exercise. Riders could receive a free ticket by standing in front of the machine’s camera, and performing 30 squats. The idea is to get people active and amped for the games.
If you could do a little bit of exercise in exchange for a train ticket, would you?
On any normal day, due to complete laziness I would probably take the escalator. If you presented me with the opportunity to have ‘fun’ whilst climbing a set of stairs, I’d definitely consider it.
The Fun Project – Piano Staircase was an initiative of Volkswagen to see if by making the daily chore of climbing the stairs to be ‘fun’, would increase the number of people to actually use them. See the results here.
The IMA: Institute of Modern Art is inviting artists who are 6 years out of art school, who have not yet exhibited at IMA and who were born or are living in Queensland to submit their portfolios to be considered for showcasing at the 2012 Fresh Cut exhibit at the IMA. Imagine a classroom where all the books are located on the one device and reading them is a total interactive experience. We have come so far with technology in the last 10 years. Feeling a little old, I remember back to the days when I had to cart text books around, reading and then writing out notes on paper. At the time, I could never have imagined anything so different. The new Apple iBooks allows students to interact with what they are learning. Tapping into more of our senses, making learning, fun, interactive and most of all memorable.
Apple iBooks is also a great tool for writers, making laying out and publishing books incredibly easy with a very professional outcome.
I challenge you to view this video and not feel a little bit jealous of the experience we never got to experience in our school days.
Charlie Todd causes bizarre, hilarious, and unexpected public scenes: Seventy synchronized dancers in storefront windows, “ghostbusters” running through the New York Public Library, and the annual no-pants subway ride. At TEDxBloomington he showed how his group, Improv Everywhere, uses these scenes to bring people together and as I see it make people smile and laugh.
One of the many things I took away from his talk is how as kids we are encouraged to play and nothing is thought of it, but as adults we don’t play as much. I hope this shared experience will not only make you smile, but remind you to put some play into your life.

Recently I was researching design ideas on the internet for a project. As you can imagine seeing some awesome ideas from someone else can spark off an inspiration in you, which translates into an awesome concept for the project you work on. One of the things that is so great about the internet is that inspiration is so easily accessible and in global sense as well. You discover gems that you would probably never have seen.
So in my researching I came across this great campaign for the Motor Accident Commission (MAC) in South Australia. The campaign is aimed at young drivers and just how ‘screwed’ they’d be, if they lost their licence.
I am inspired by the quirky humour in this advert. After all as a teenager I couldn’t think of anything worse then being embarrassed by your mum or any of the other situations the adverts play on (eg. trying to pick up girls on bikes, or making out in an expensive taxi). I for one had to laugh at the situations. Even the website is well executed in it’s humour, informing young drivers of the many other ways they’d be ‘screwed’, as well as what actions may cause them to get ‘screwed’. I also like the fact that this isn’t a shock tactics campaign and shows a new approach to target a particular audience. I love my iPhone 4 and couldn’t imagine life without it, but after watching this ad, I found myself thinking should I upgrade to the new iPhone 4S. That is the power of this soft sell ad from Apple. It doesn’t mention Siri or iPhone at all in the ad but yet the messages about the new features was so strong. Watch it yourself and let me know what you think.
