Madrid’s new hotel is complete rubbish… in a good way!

A new mini hotel has opened in the heart of Madrid and it’s proud to say it is rubbish! The Beach Garbage Hotel is built out of 12 tonnes of rubbish from dumps and Western European beaches. An art installation by German artist Ha Schult, the structure is sponsored by Corona, as part of their ‘Coronita [...]

All the buildings in New York City

I [heart] NY. No really I do. I’m ridiculously addicted to the city. I love that the city holds everything that you need (well, if you’re partial to urban living & non-stop activity – of which I am). Once in NYC, you don’t really need to leave. Why would you? 24-hour choice is at your finger [...]

The former Port Authority building has a helipad on the roof, and elevators that are big enough to fit 18-wheel semi-trucks. The building was specifically chosen by Google, because it sits almost directly [...]

Australian Art Deco Architecture

Think about art deco architecture and buildings like Manhattan’s Chrysler Building or The Rockefeller Center usually spring to mind. It’s unlikely that the strip of shops including Myer and David Leees in Bourke Street, Melbourne, or Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) will be at the top of your list. They are great examples of [...]

Come On Lil’ Lleyton

Those of you in Brisbane (or even Australia and the world it seems) will most likely be aware of the battle between Josh Shiels and Australian tennis star Lleyton Hewitt of the trademark dispute of the ‘Come On’ brand that Josh created a number of years ago. As a friend of Josh and his son [...]

Toothpick Fanatic recreates San Francisco with toothpicks!

Wow, talk about having delicate fingers, a sturdy hand, and patience! Check out this video I stumbled across on Wired. It took Scott Weaver 3000 hours to create the 9 foot tall, 20 pound structure of San Francisco. I would love to see him work his toothpick magic on London’s Houses of Parliament! Yours in [...]

Going underground

A friend of mine recently sent me some astounding pics of an almost undetectable house in the Swiss village of Vals (thanks Claudia!). Below is a paraphrased description of the house from inhabitat.com who profiled this stunning abode: Designed by the architects of SeArch and Christian Müller, this underground house exemplifies the notion that thoughtfully [...]
